About the Camp
The 2009 Midwest Morris Ale will be held in Minnesota on Memorial Day Weekend
(May 22-25), and is being hosted by the four teams
of Minneapolis and St. Paul (Minnesota Traditional Morris, Bells of the North,
Uptown-on-Calhoun, and Ramsey's Braggarts) with the help of many friends. The campsite
is on the beautiful grounds of
YMCA Camp Ihduhapi, located about 25 miles west
of downtown Minneapolis.
Camp Ihduhapi is quite large with several new buildings, including a newly remodeled and expanded
kitchen. The bunk houses are real buildings (with heat!), not platform tents. There is
a central bathroom facility that is new, modern, and large. The dance hall has a beautiful
wood floor and is separate from the dining hall, which has an identical wood floor.
There is a game room (pool, foosball) and separate gathering room below the dance
hall. One building has several small rooms, some with half-baths, which will be excellent
housing for families. There is a large patio with tables, many decks with seating, and
another very new building with several rooms suitable for workshops. Go
to the bottom of
this page for several photos of the camp!
This camp usually does not allow alcohol on site, but since we will be the only
group in camp, we will be allowed to have beer. It is written into our
contract, however, that we only serve the beer from kegs housed in one central location on
the covered deck just outside of the main Lodge (the dance hall). Please keep this
in mind and respect our agreement with the camp!! Happily, we will also be able to
have the scotch tasting workshop, but it will have to be DlSCREET.
Finally, the entire camp is non-smoking,
including outside. Sorry, I didn't know to ask about this issue!
Vent at Jan if you
must.
IMPORTANT DRIVING INFORMATION: When driving west on I-394/US-12, there is a new
bypass road that will NOT show up on any of the mapping sites! It is very important that
you follow the US-12 bypass! Keep to the left as noted in the photo. Also, if you plan on
driving through Minneapolis during rush hour (roughly 3-6pm), please consider that traffic
on westbound 394 will be heavy. If you have two or more people in your car, you can take
the HOV lane that begins at the eastern-most end of 394 (keep to the left lane to enter the
HOV lane). This lane is free if you have 2+ people in your vehicle.
